Calico Koi
Notes: lemongrass, basil, ginger, turmeric, osmanthus, sweetened toasted coconut, and sticky rice
It was my last summer working at the art museum and I was now interning as a collection photographer alongside the rest of the staff who were working on preserving, cleaning, and documenting pieces of east asian art from across China, Korea, and Japan. I spent dozens of hours every week with these pieces and across many of them, I would spot recurring themes and images, my favorite was the orange and black spotted koi.

The toasted coconut and sticky rice come together in a sweet, creamy way. The sweet herbs add depth without overpowering and reading as green or sharp. I do not pick up much turmeric, so if you're looking for spice bombs, this isn't that. But I was decidedly not, so I'm happy about it. Osmanthus is one of my favorite single notes, though I find it hard to detect with other notes, more of a blender. I'd say the same here, it acts as a bridge between the spices and the creamy notes, just slightly fruity to tie it all together. Dries down to a bit more on the spice side, in a similar vein as Eudemonia by House of Gloi, though slightly more well rounded, in my opinion.
I love this one because I feel like it could be worn year-round. It’s pretty enough for warm weather, but also has a coziness about it that I feel like I’m going to greatly appreciate in the colder months.
Unexpectedly very warm scent! Its comforting and creamy - i love the osmanthus and sticky rice scent together.
Bright and uplifting, this opens with zesty lemongrass and ginger, softened by fresh basil. Turmeric and osmanthus add depth, while the creaminess of toasted coconut and sweet sticky rice make it irresistibly addictive, it’s like sunshine in a scent.
Smells like sweet lemongrass and mango sticky rice, very nice and different than anything I’ve smelled before.
