The Strange Proclivities of Mr. Dickens
The Strange Proclivities of Mr. Dickens
Inspired by Dickens on the Strand - A celebration of Galveston’s victorian history, Charles Dickens, Edgar Allen Poe, and…pirates…for some reason. Specifically a night when I was celebrating at an after-hours event in full gibson girl getup and got to have an extended conversation with a very merry and very in-character Charles Dickens.
Notes: Hot mulled red wine, flavored with cranberries, warm spices, and orange zest; layered over a traditional chypre perfume base, pipe tobacco, and woods.

Gosh, this is the FIRST cranberry perfume I’ve smelled that is photorealistic with the red wine. It makes me feel incredibly giddy and cozy all at once, and I enjoy how fruity and bright it is. Images of an Anne of Green Gables Christmas Party comes to mind, laughing and running around with your closest friend, hiding underneath a tablecloth and watching grownup’s shoes walk by and someone having such a good time, they are spilling their drink laughing too hard. I can practically hear someone guffawing at a funny joke. Such a happy scent and I can’t wait to upsize from my sample to have a Christmas Chypre perfume in my collection!
I tend to not like sweet perfumes, and this was a little sweeter than I anticipated. (I expecting it to lean more spicy). That said though, the wine and fruity notes came through absolutely beautifully done. Would highly recommend!
This is mulled wine, but encapsulated in a glowing, fuzzy, warmth. It’s spiced but in a dusty and nostalgic way, almost like you’ve tried to buy the same potpourri your grandma had, but it’s from Homegoods so it’s not nearly as antique, but still has the soft powdery sweetness that you’re seeking. Like the beginnings of creating your own vintage keepsakes. The wine here feels lukewarm, you’ve been letting it sit, steep, and the fruits here show it. They’re soft and covered by wisps of sweet and smoky tobacco. This scent takes the stereotypical festive wine with spices and elevates it into something so much hazier, warmer, and charming.
Wowed by the evocative journey summoned within this EDP! Zesty, boozy top notes sparkle over an impressive heart of spiced fruits and wood. The festive garland evolves, becoming an ornately carved treasure admired under a warm glow. An easy, unguarded conversation that extends comfortably after the other revelers have departed.
