The Strange Proclivities of Mr. Dickens
The Strange Proclivities of Mr. Dickens
Inspired by Dickens on the Strand - A celebration of Galveston’s victorian history, Charles Dickens, Edgar Allen Poe, and…pirates…for some reason. Specifically a night when I was celebrating at an after-hours event in full gibson girl getup and got to have an extended conversation with a very merry and very in-character Charles Dickens.
Notes: Hot mulled red wine, flavored with cranberries, warm spices, and orange zest; layered over a traditional chypre perfume base, pipe tobacco, and woods.

The orange zest, mulled wine, spices and cranberries really shine through and create a vibe i hadn't experienced yet in perfumery! As a wine sales person I'm loving this vibe.
I got a tester of this because I saw a reviewer talking about it. This is a very interesting fragrance and it’s completely lovely, but it’s just a little too sweet for my taste. I don’t want to rate it because I just simply wasn’t the audience for it. I’m really looking forward to trying other fragrances from Cirrus, they seem like they’re making a lot of original scents that you don’t smell every day.
When I first spray it on skin, I get a punch of orange and spices. After about 30s the mulled wine and woods come in to make this comforting smell reminiscent of holidays with my family. In the dry down is when I can smell the chypre base and the tobacco. It’s fruity woody and a little smoky when it’s fully dry on skin. Such a wonderful scent 10/10
The Strange Proclivities of Mr. Dickens is reminiscent of a no-longer-hot mug of spiced mulled wine or cider. There's no apple in this fragrance but the combination of spices remind me of Crockpots filled with cider, orange slices, and mulling spices. The cranberries are a delightful addition and the citrus sticks around longer than expected. As a lover of fall and winter, I'm happy to have another cozy fragrance to wear on chilly days.
Not only does this stay on all day but it’s beyond unique. Top middle and base notes are so balanced you can actually smell all of them. The citrus hits so nicely to brighten it just slightly. I’m obsessed.
